I’m all about expectations.  I plan.  I anticipate.  Brad knows this.  He knows that he should tell me that he’ll be home at 6:30 and then he can dazzle me when he shows up at 6:05.  To tell me he’ll be home at 6:00 and to show up at 6:05… well, let’s just say I’m not dazzled.

We put date nights on the calendar for two reasons: one, so they happen.  And, two, so that I can anticipate a fun night with my man.  I enjoy the anticipation of special events almost as much as the event itself.  Last weekend, we planned a date night and I am so excited.  We are going somewhere and we are going to talk.  (That sounds ridiculous, but you have to understand that we have young kids.  It is hard to leave the house and impossible to have a conversation longer than forty-seven seconds.)  We want to talk about things that we want to do this summer: places we want to take the girls, friends we want to invite to our home, activities that are family and budget friendly.  He suggested planning out what (local) trips we might take this year, and brainstorming our next big vacation.  We both love travel and adventure.  Our list of places to see and things to do is epic.  I want to know: when will I next have my toes in the ocean?  Long term: when should we take our girls to Mammoth Cave, to Mackinac Island, to Bryce Canyon and beyond?  I love that this is our date.  We’re not going to dinner and a movie.  We’re dreaming, we’re hoping, we’re planning, we’re anticipating.

Well you got me singing to myself this morning! I love mornings. I will pray this morning that all your dreams will come true and that God will continue to wrap His loving arms around you, giving you comfort and peace. It is going to be a beautiful day!!!

  2. Sounds like a lovely date. Enjoy!

  3. Have fun. Sounds beautiful and reminds me that this is something we probably all should do more. Enjoy!

  4. Love this- always good to plan and dream, and be excited about things to come. Enjoy your sweet longer-than-47-second-conversation w Brad;)

I am still praying without ceasing. I will not stop. God is good.

  6. Me, too! I love all of those things and love that you get to have a date to anticipate making more wonderful plans together. God bless you!

You are such an inspiration to me. You are on my heart, today and everyday. Love wins.

  8. I remember those days of needing to talk without interruption… Making plans and anticipation sounds wonderful! Our baby is 12 years old and we just took a spring break trip to Bryce Canyon (and Arches, and the Grand Canyon). It’s easier to hike when you don’t have to carry anyone or their water bottles. 😉
Wishing you a blessed day. ♥

  9. I think that the ability to both “do today well” and anticipate what the future holds is a balance we should all strive to achieve. Thank you for providing such a beautiful example of how to do this with grace and thoughtful intention. You are an inspiration!

Jen – I may be going to out of town for 10 or so days this summer and I am definitely gone for 5 in June. If you’re interested, you and your family are welcome to come and stay at my place. I have a 3 bedroom condo and I’m about 15 minutes or so from the beach. I live near Siesta Key, which was named the #1 beach in North America last year. The sand is like powdered sugar. There are lots of fun things to do for the kiddos, besides just the beach, and there’s a pool in my community. Keep it in mind! Might be a budget friendly way to get your toes in the sand sooner.

Jen, I hope you and Brad had a wonderful date night! It seems long ago, but I too remember the anticipation of a “just mom and dad” date night! I know you had fun! 🙂 Hugs, Lauri

Jen- here is a blog of another young mom who had cancer and beat it, and has changed many lives because of her willingness to trust the Lord in that season. I know you have tons to do but this really is comforting- your not in it alone. Read from the beginning.
