The important and the non-essential

May 14

The four of us packed our weekend with maximum fun by road-tripping to my sister’s town for her baby shower. Even though my body was in rough shape last week after chemo, it is important to me to do important things; we are so glad we went. It was a great time, and this baby is already so so so loved. Our family is the best.

I’ve come home with a fair amount of pain — either more broken ribs (probably) or some strained muscles from coughing. Thus I’ve put myself on bedrest for non-essentials. Which basically means I keep re-defining “non-essentials” because it is very hard to not do the things. And when I’m holding still I’m generally okay — it’s when I move that I yelp in pain. I’ll see both of my medical teams later today, so we’ll see if they have any advice for me.

Brad is a champion and is doing an amazing job taking care of me. The girls are helping too; they are picking up responsibilities and having helpful attitudes. I am very well loved, and that makes sitting and resting and doing the quiet things feel peaceful. I am grateful.
