The snow fairies delivered

Feb 05

When I went to bed last night, school was on a two-hour-delay.

At 6:11am the phone rang with the “closed” call.

At 6:56am, Maren did her excited tip-toe-run into my room, “Mommy, do I have a delay or is school closed?”

“Closed, Maren.  No school!”

And we both grinned.

She climbed into bed with me and we talked about what she wants to do today.

So far, the first request is to play American Girl dolls together.  I’m getting my original Kirsten doll (circa 1987?) out from the archives, along with all her outfits.  It’s the first time I’m letting Maren play with her… the only toy that made the cut through all of my bedroom sorts growing up.  Some of my favorite memories are playing with those dolls with my friends.

Next up, Fairy Bread for breakfast.  It’s a treat I associate with our Displaced Australians in Ohio group gatherings from my youth.  The recipe is simple, but thrilling for kids: bread/toast with butter (or peanut butter) and rainbow sprinkles.  Just for fun, and a really fun way to thank the snow fairies for their overnight work.

Wherever you are, enjoy your day!

Sounds fabulous! Enjoy your day! And I’m jealous. I live in Memphis, TN and we have not had any snow yet this year-just a few flurries. I, like you, have wonderful childhood memories of snow days. My dad would sled with all the neighborhood kids, my mom would man the cookies and hot chocolate and then we made snow cream. You add vanilla and sugar to your snow and eat or put back in the freezer. We thought it was heavenly but now the thought of it makes me gag-so funny. Can’t wait to hear all about it 🙂

So jealous! I grew up with snow days, but they never seem to happen in the desert southwest! 🙂 Enjoy that extra girl time! Kirsten was my favorite growing up, too!

Hope there was laughter and hot chocolate with marshmallows. Lots of melted marshmallows. Eat with a spoon melted marshmallows. Because really, isn’t the only reason we drink hot chocolate is for THE marshmallows!!!!
