Pathology Report

Sep 06

Today Dr. Awesome called me with the pathology report from my surgery.  Almost everything on the report was what she anticipated in the report she gave to my family immediately after the surgery:

-Clean Margins:  Got ’em!  She cut all the cancer out, with room to spare.

-All of the cancer was “Intermediate” grade, which is the same as what the biopsy showed back in March.  I’m happy about this: no aggressive or virulent types of cancer were found.

-3 of 7 lymph nodes tested positive for cancer, which is actually less than both she and I anticipated.

Bottom line: Once upon a time, I had a whole lotta cancer, and now I have no (measurable) cancer.  It’s a good place to be.  Everything we do from this point forward is going to be to inhibit cancer growth: any existing cells, any recurrance, any new cancers.  Doctors don’t like to use the phrase “cancer-free”.  They will declare me cancer-free in ten years when I have lived with no sign of cancer for that duration.  I am happy about the pathology report, and I am happy to set my sights on the ten year mark.  I’ll have a teenager then!  Yowsa!
