She sees me

Maren drew this picture of me yesterday, and said, “Mama I made this picture of you.  Aren’t you beautiful?”:I love many things about this picture:

-My hair: it’s pretty true-to-life.  She no longer draws me as she remembers me before cancer; she draws me as I am today.

-My teeth: her friend lost a tooth at our house yesterday, so teeth and toothfairies were the subject matter for the previous work.  I believe they influenced this work.

-My eyelashes: are awesome.  Obviously.

-My earrings: are the kind of thing she wishes I would wear.  My ear got infected somewhere around Chemo Week Three, and I haven’t worn earrings since.  However, Maren routinely comments that she loves that we both like to wear dresses, and she often  picks out jewelry for each of us to wear.  I once went to the grocery store wearing a Hawaiian lei.  Greta wears Mardi Gras beads (her choice, much to Maren’s chagrin) daily.  Maren wears tiaras and laments that we cannot find a matching tiara that will fit her favorite baby doll.

In between all this accessorizing, we also have lots of talks about how beauty is on the inside.

I think she gets it, but I also love that she thinks a couple of loop-de-loops can’t hurt either.

I don’t know what is sweeter: believing that I am beautiful, even in this chemo-ravaged cancer-fighting season of life, or knowing that my five-year-old daughter sees my beauty and calls it out in me.

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful.  No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. That beauty will never disappear. It is worth very much to God. –1 Peter 3:3-4

Amen! Amen! Amen! That beauty you carry so well my friend. The eyes of a child are much like the eyes of God. Love to you.

Finally I see some opportunity here to do something from afar. I have just mailed from ebay a tiara for my girl Maren and it says it fits an American Doll. yes it was meant to be. Any fine artist like Maren deserves a tiara for her doll. Email me if you get it…I will forward shipping info via email. It is addressed to you but has Maren’s name on it too. Onward!!!

Absolutely lovely! And I’m an old art teacher so I know my art! 🙂 I do wonder what Bible translation that is. I love the line “It is worth very much to God.” That seems to say it all. You and your daughters are a delight!

Just catching up on your progress today. Hope today went well. This post with your daugter’s artwork is one of my favorites–so sweet, and I love that verse. Praying for complete healing as you get your last chemo.

  7. Amen! And what a beautiful picture. Perhaps the best thing of all is that Maren drew you with a big smile!
